About Me
In 2019, Jona began his studies at the Folkwang University of the Arts, where he received principal piano instruction from Peter Walter, Thomas Hufschmidt, and Thomas Rückert. Additionally, he studied drums as a secondary instrument with Sperie Karas from 2019 to 2022.
He started his master studies at Folkwang in April 2025 with Martin Sasse as his piano teacher, which he will complete in the beginning of 2027.
Since 2021, Jona has been an active member of several bands and projects, including KNUD (Scandinavian Jazz) with Jonathan Schierhorn and Kevin Hemkemeier, Searching for the Goat (Electro/Fusion), and the Felicitas Ammer Quartet. He has also been performing with the 12-piece Earth, Wind & Fire tribute band 3 Elements which he founded in 2022. In 2023, his collaboration with Enya Alma Obert led to a live performance with audio-reactive visuals at the Visiodrom Wuppertal, which will be renewed in 2026 for another project together.
Jona is also engaged in composition and arrangement. He writes original compositions for KNUD and Searching for the Goat and creates faithful arrangements of Earth, Wind & Fire pieces for 3 Elements. Additionally he is writing some Solo Piano pieces, which will probably be released in late 2027.
His studio work includes recordings for various projects, such as an EP with KNUD as well as two Albums (VOL. 1 + VOL. 2), an album with the Felicitas Ammer Quartet, and a piano recording for Ron Diva’s EP "Fünf Songs".
His musical talent has been recognized through several awards. Early in his career, he won the Kinderlobby OWL composition competition. In 2018, he participated in the OWL Talents competition, and in 2023, he was nominated for the Young Jazz Talent Award in Düsseldorf and won the Steinway & Sons Förderpreis in the Jazz category.
